Christmas Week at our House

December 30, 2014

I hope everyone else had a wonderful Christmas; I know that we sure did! Since I’m headed off to have my lower wisdom teeth extracted this morning, I thought I’d share some of our holiday happenings along with pictures. Think of the more enjoyable times, eh?

Two big surprises came in one weekend just a few weeks before Christmas: my aunt and uncle moving back to Texas, and the new puppy. Then we just had a generally wonderful week last week.

I have a feeling I’m gonna get it for sharing this (Mother, you are beautiful), but how could I not? We took this about ten minutes or so after my aunt (lower right) got to our house to send to the rest of the family in a group message. So much fun.

In case you missed my last post, meet Copper!

We headed into downtown for dinner, gelato, and lights on Sunday.

I don’t even remember exactly what was in this, but I remember that it was really good! It’s hard to go wrong with Italian.

Grandma (Mom’s mom) and I baked sugar cookies from scratch on Monday, and I am so thankful I had her help or else I would have been totally lost! Fortunately, with Grandma’s expertise, the cookies were a success. Our decorating skills on the other hand… well, those still need some work.

On Tuesday, I got to celebrate my eighteenth birthday. Having my aunt and uncle back in town on top of having Grandma here for the holidays made dinner that night really special and a lot of fun.

Daddy left a little note on our awesome board for me to wake up to.

Mom brought our red plate (that has been poorly neglected) with us and insisted I eat off of it.

Before we even knew what was happening, Christmas was here. I remember so vividly how each and every day during the Christmas season used to drag by. In elementary school, it felt like Christmas would never get here! Now though, it comes and goes entirely too quickly. Our years spent waking up at the crack of dawn, only to have to wait until the designated time at which Trent and I were allowed to come downstairs and wake Mom and Dad up, were a lot of fun—we have the home videos to prove it. At this point in my life though, I can appreciate our slower Christmas mornings. I can appreciate that each year I find myself less focused on the presents and more on Christ, who is the entire reason we celebrate to begin with.

Copper was the one waking us up this year. He got me up at 7:30, but I did my best to keep him quiet until everyone else got up around 8:30. By the time we’d all gathered downstairs, we had texts waiting for us with pictures of my younger cousins, and all of their already opened packages. New chew toys settled the boys down so we could read the Christmas passages in Luke, start breakfast, and open stockings. Once the wrapping paper started coming off the gifts, Copper {not surprisingly} discovered his favorite part of Christmas.

Wrapping paper was a hit with this little boy!

The rest of the day we watched Christmas movies and most of us napped at some point.

Hot cocoa to end the day.

The very next morning, we were all piling into the truck to head out for Christmas with Dad’s side of the family. We changed things up this year and did a White Elephant gift exchange, which turned out to be a lot of fun! (Too bad I didn’t get any pictures from it.) It was just a quick, one night trip, but we had enjoyed food and good company while it lasted.

I loved reading about your lovely Christmas! Good luck with your wisdom teeth surgery. Make sure to not drink through straws for at least two weeks 😉

      Glad you enjoyed!

      The surgery went super smoothly, and I was done in under thirty minutes! Being the straw lover that I am, no straws is just awful, but I’m surviving it! I never realized how much I take solid food for granted though. (;
